My Sculpture
My distinction between installation art and sculpture is straight forward; sculpture is object art, installations you can walk into. I see installation art as a sub-genre of sculpture.
In undergraduate school I used the skills I learned from my father building houses to create a series of what I call "form-relationship" sculptures. This series is called Mechanics. Looking back I see they have a rather "steam-punk" feel to them.

Before I made it to graduate school I turned on this kind of sculpture, finding it rather mindless and with little significance. I started feeling the influence of conceptual artists after reading Idea Art by Joseph Kosuth. This took me down a long path of experimentation trying to find meaning in art, but often falling into didactic overtly political pieces.

It wasn't until I started creating installation did I find my own voice and artistic vocabulary.

This section is here to document that journey.
