Dance of the WaterSpiders was the Robotics Art Club’s first and most successful accomplishment.

Our first performance was in Cambridge as part of the CyberArt Festival in the Spring of 2002. Later that Summer they were performed in Rhode Island, where I was born and raised. This video is from that performance on the Providence river downtown Providence.

Alex Croome is helping a bystander controll one of the spiders. Alex was one of the kids in the club, one of the best ones.
It was quite a specticle when you could see all eight waterspider in action all run by kids. Note the braisiers in the background filled with firewood for the waterfire event to be lit at dust. Waterfire is the brainchild of artist Barnaby Evans, one of the most successful art performances I have ever witnessed.
Here you can see several of the club kids in the foreground, and the dads a little further back helping work the crane., which they built.
This was an early prototype to see it the concept would work.
