This project emerged from discussions in Aribert Munzner’s studio during Friday night dinners, with principal artists Jim Gregory and Richard Bonk playing key roles. Initially conceived as a live art installation for a phone booth in the California Building, the idea evolved through exploration of ChatGPT, inspired by Ray Kurzweil’s books The Singularity is Near and The Singularity is Nearer.
As the concept developed, a real-world opportunity arose through Springboard for the Arts, sparking further ambition. Reflecting on two previous residencies at MIT, the possibility of a third is now on the horizon—envisioning a larger, more impactful project with expanded scope and funding potential.
ChatGPT played a pivotal role in the development of the proposal, serving as a dynamic brainstorming partner. The team continually fed it ideas, seeking its assistance to articulate concepts, identify connections, and align their vision with potential opportunities.
