In 1982, Lynn Ball and Remo Campopiano founded Artpaper, the Twin Cities visual arts newspaper. Artpaper only lasted from 1982 to 1993, 11 years, but during that decade it had a major impact in our arts community. It was the driving forced behind the downtown gallery district, when we had 23 highly respected galleries all in one location.
When contemplating the Whence project, the first person Campopiano meet with was Deborah Ultan, the arts archivist at the U of M Anderson library. Ultan agreed to have all of Artpaper digitized so that it could be used as a resource for historical article. We are currently in negotiation with Anderson Library to be a publishing partner for the entire Whence project.
