This work was created for the Northern Gallery with assistance from 30 student at Northern State College in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
The City sets on an eight-foot square light box.
This installation portrays a culture obsessed with sensationalism, devouring everything new, regardless of its ecological cost—a culture dazzling but ultimately decaying.
The city was designed during several brainstorming sessions with the student. In two weeks the entire city was built—carved from white candle wax, partially melted under heat lambs, when coated with sugar.
When the city was finished, we released 1000 California Harvester Ants in the sugar-coated city.
